17 Things To Do in Spokane, Washington - Jetsetting Fools (2)

Leading off our list of the top things to do in Spokane, Washington is spending time in Riverfront Park. Located smack in the middle of the city, Riverfront Park was built to host the Expo ’74 World Fair – and it still attracts millions of visitors to Spokane every year.

The 100-acre park sits on an island in the middle of the Spokane River and is one of the best places to visit in Spokane. Top sights include the US Pavilion, the Great Northern Clocktower, the Looff Carrousel, the Ice Age Playground, and Spokane Skate Park. The area also features fountains, sculptures, green spaces and walking trails.

US Pavilion

17 Things To Do in Spokane, Washington - Jetsetting Fools (3)

The USA Pavilion was built for the 1974 World Fair. As the fair’s theme was an International Exposition of the Environment, the Pavilion was designed to incorporate nature into the man-made structure. Although the structure was never intended to be permanent, people rallied to keep the unique Pavilion.

Today, it stands as a place for entertainment in Spokane. In the summer, outdoor concerts and other events are held at the US Pavilion. Attending a show is one of the fun things to do in Spokane at night!

Great Northern Clocktower

17 Things To Do in Spokane, Washington - Jetsetting Fools (4)

The slender clock tower that stands along in Riverfront Park is all that is left of the Great Northern Depot. The building, which was built in 1902 on Havermale Island as a stop on the Great Northern Railroad, was demolished to make room for the 1974 World Expo.

The impressive tower has clock faces on each side that measure 9 feet across. To keep the time, the clock must be wound every week with a hand crank!

Looff Carrousel

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Riverfront Park Carousel was built by Chalres Looff in 1909. The ride was originally placed at Natatorium Park, but was relocated to Riverfront Park in 1975.

Still operational – complete with the original organ from 1900 – the carrousel is a top park attraction. Just as much as it entertains children, it’s one of the fun things to do in Spokane for adults, too!

Ice Age Playground and Spokane Skate Park

Families who visit Spokane won’t want to miss the Riverfront Park Ice Age Playground. Featuring a 3-story slide, a splash pad and climber, the park aims to educate kids about the geography of the region while playing.

In addition to the playground, a skateboard park and basketball courts are also located on the North Bank of Riverfront Park.
