Class of 2023 | IIM Calcutta (2024)

PGDBA Batch - 9 - 62 students were welcomed on board on 17th July, 2023 and successfully completed registration process which constituted on physical verification of documents and ERP registration. The welcome event was organised spanning four days. The Freshers' Welcome was held on 19th July, 2023 where the session was addressed by the following dignitaries from three institutes as per the sequence mentioned:

Welcome Speeches
	Prof. Uttam Kumar Sarkar - IIM Calcutta delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He took the audience through the journey of PGDBA program since its inception. He also highlighted the availability and importance of relevant and meaningful data in different sectors. Further, he elaborated on the demand of data scientists across the world and the contribution of PGDBA in shaping their career.
	Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director – ISI delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. She emphasised on the course curriculum and the program structure of PGDBA. She also highlighted the role of ISI Kolkata in building quantitative aptitude within students of the program. Finally, she congratulated the entire batch for their selection of this prestigious program.
	Prof. Virendra Kumar Tewari – Director IIT - Kharagpur delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He congratulated the new batch for their achievement. His talk emphasised the importance of human behaviour in building a successful career. Moreover, he motivated the new batch to become an entrepreneur and create more job opportunities in society.
	Prof. Bhaskar Chakrabarti, Dean (Academic) - IIM Calcutta delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He discussed the scope and reach of analytics in different strata of life. He emphasised on the usefulness of analytics on person and society, where data science professionals are expected to contribute. Finally, he highlighted the value of this program in solving real life problems across sectors and countries.
	Prof. Krishna Kumar – Dean (FoS) – IIT - Kharagpur delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He congratulated students for their achievement and welcomed them. He shared about the campus life of IIT Kharagpur and encouraged students to be part of this life. He emphasised on human values and motivated the students to become a good human being.
	Prof. Gopal Krishna Basak, Dean of Studies – ISI delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He highlighted the differences in pedagogical orientation among the three partner institutes – IIM Calcutta, ISI Kolkata, and IIT Kharagpur and how the new batch can build different perspectives from the same. He also talked about the values ISI believes in shaping the future of students.
	Prof. K.S Reddy Dean, VGSoM – IIT Kharagpur delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He congratulated the new batch and updated them about the resources IIT Kharagpur provides to the students. He also highlighted the importance of data analytics and how it can be best used for the purpose of problem solving.
	Prof. Anisur Rahaman Molla, PGDBA Coordinator – ISI delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He shared with the new batch the importance of sports and other physical exercise along with the daily curriculum. He apprised the students on the culture and values of ISI and congratulated them for joining the program.
	Prof. Samit Paul, PGDBA Chairperson – IIM Calcutta delivered the welcome address to the new batch of PGDBA on Wednesday 19 July, 2023. He described different challenges and opportunities lying ahead of the new batch. He highlighted the importance of maintaining rules and regulations and also advised them to participate actively in classes and other learning activities, such as industry conclave etc. Finally, he extended his vote of thanks to all the dignitaries for sharing their words of wisdom to the new batch and bless them.

The fourth day of the welcome event concluded with a session "industry experts" conducted by Dr. Siddharth Balakrishna. He spoke on How to think with an analytical mind and as a Data Analyst.
