I have been trying to write reviews more actively. Both to have reviews for less popular series and to practice writing in general. For this series I felt it was worth writing a review just to have a counter opinion to the only current review for this manga, because I personally think that besides its shortcomings this manga is actually pretty special. Fiancés Fall in Love with My Sister. tells the traditional villainess story of the main character, Illya falling in love with her political marriage partner and childhood fiancee, Soleil. However, Soleil does not reciprocate these feelings for her, instead he is in love with Ilya's sickly sister Sylvia. The premise of the manga is that Illya, hopelessly in love with Soleil, keeps regressing every time she dies and each time she tries something different the outcome of the relationship she has with Soleil remains similar. During this process we as the readers also come to learn more about the way Illya is treated in general. This in and of itself is already a fairly novel concept. While villainess stories are common the repeated loop concept where the focus is actually on the looping, not on the fact that they happened is not something I have seen before in the genre. The hurt of the main character and the disconnect she starts feeling at a certain point is really interesting and portrayed in a unique way. Bottom line: waste of time. Basically the entire story is the main character in hell being punished for eternity in this poorly organized opera run by satan with comedic levels of tragedy. Everything the main character does ends in nearly the worst feasible way. All the characters act as if they were written by chatGPT with the prompt "Please write characters that have the reasoning of characters within a dream, but the deramer dreaming the dream has the mental capacity of a goldfish. Also they are being guided by some force to unnaturally hate the main character." (Yes, this hate force is a part of the plot. I don't quite get how it works myself.) It is so pathetic watching this character wallow the worst traits of humanity; She is immortal yet she just does the worst job ever at the bare minimum of living a life that is not miserable. There is no character development here. I would have liked this manga more if the author just went all in and had the main character being skinned alive every other page; If the character is in hell, I am extremely disappointed in whoever is running the joint because they are torturing this woman in the most low-effort, yet also convoluted fashion possible.
