Kyle Ryde's Ducati Switch: A New Chapter in BSB (2025)

The Ducati Switch: A Rider's Choice and a Potential Game-Changer

In a surprising move, Kyle Ryde, a two-time BSB champion with Yamaha, is set to embark on a new chapter with Ducati for the 2026 season. This decision, according to his rider coach and former BSB champion Tommy Hill, was one that Ryde himself desired. Amidst the off-season shuffle, including the departure of 2023 champion Tommy Bridewell from Honda and Ryan Vickers' return to World Superbike, the Nitrous Competitions Racing team's switch from Yamaha to Ducati might not seem like a headline-grabber. However, it carries the potential to be the most significant shift of the winter.

For Ryde, it marks his fourth bike in BSB, having previously ridden for Suzuki, BMW, and Yamaha. But it's not just about him; his teammate Glenn Irwin, who showcased his title-contending abilities with Ducati machinery in 2023 and 2024, adds an intriguing dimension to this team.

"Everyone's excited," Tommy Hill shared in an interview. "It's a new project, and while it might present challenges initially, change can be a good thing. It keeps the team on their toes, and it's exactly what Kyle wanted. He's been with the team for four years, and a change in his fifth season will bring a fresh excitement.

But here's where it gets controversial... Despite the optimism, Hill acknowledges the potential difficulties. The Panigale V4 R, while impressive, will be an untested bike in BSB-spec, given the unique ruleset of the British Championship. Hill said, "We've heard great things about the Panigale, and Ducati has made significant improvements. However, we must see if it performs in BSB-spec. The ruleset, with its specific tire compounds and electronic systems, can drastically alter a bike's performance.

And this is the part most people miss... In a sport where every detail matters, the team's ability to adapt will be crucial. With a top-tier rider like Kyle and a strong team supporting him, they're confident in making this Italian brand work. Fingers crossed, they'll hit the ground running in 2026.
