What materials are best for laser engraving? ›

An acrylic with a smooth and even surface is best for laser engraving. Avoid acrylic with air bubbles or other irregularities as this may affect the engraving result.

Versatility of material processing

Cut materials like acrylic, paper, wood, MDF sheets, textile and plastic contactlessly – anything from 1 mm paper to 25 mm acrylic is possible. Our laser cutters offer a working area of up to 2 x 3 m.

If the laser is primarily used for engraving, you will achieve good results with laser powers between 25 and 80 watts. For laser cutting or for very high speed applications, we recommend a laser power of more than 80 watts.

The materials that the laser can cut materials like wood, paper, cork, and some kinds of plastics. Etching can be done on almost anything, wood, cardboard, aluminum, stainless steel, plastic, marble, stone, tile, and glass.

Polycarbonate is a poor choice for laser cutting. It creates long stringy clouds of soot that float up, ruin the optics and mess up the machine. ABS Melts / Cyanide ABS does not cut well in a laser cutter.

Alder is a soft wood, sometimes with knots present. It works great for laser cutting and engraving and produces and nice dark burn. Alder darkens a good bit when a finish is applied and looks similar to Cherry.

Best types of images
